World War II in Warsaw Free Tour
Warsaw's WWII Survival Story: Where History Didn't Take a Break
ABOUT THE World War II in Warsaw Free Tour
This tour is operated by our partner Orange Umbrella Free Tour Warsaw.
Warsaw's story during World War II is one of endurance, resilience, and defiance. Once a vibrant city, it was reduced to rubble as Nazi forces bombed it into submission, yet Warsaw never gave up. On this WWII-focused Free Walking Tour, your expert local guide (a self-proclaimed WWII history geek) will take you through the haunting traces of the war that shaped modern Warsaw.
The tour starts in the former Nazi-German district, where you'll walk through streets that tell the tale of the invasion, occupation, and resistance movements that defined this era. Visit the site of the former Deutsches House, witness the remnants of Nalewki Street, and hear stories of the September Campaign and the siege of Warsaw.
You'll also have a visit to Piłsudski Square, home to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and stop at various execution sites that remind us of the horrors the city endured. The tour also includes the Warsaw Uprising Monument, where you'll hear the inspiring story of Warsaw’s defiance during the 1944 Uprising. Along the way, you'll encounter remnants of the Warsaw Ghetto, including the Ghetto Wall Memorial, and learn about the tragic fate of the city's Jewish population during the Holocaust.
This 2.5-hour tour isn’t just about exploring tragic history, t’s about understanding how a city, torn apart by war, could rise from the ashes and become a symbol of resistance.
